Episode 287: TOTW on Fear and Freedom

Today is a thought of the walk on fear and freedom. We are seeing so many people call for curtailing the freedoms of people all over the country and expansion of the very government systems that have made this situation worse and that just ain’t right.

I too see human history as a constant struggle between freedom and tyranny and the currency in play is almost always safety.

Often these days I’m caught between people who so desperately want to believe the whole virus thing is a scam set up just for a power grab and others, like a young coworker, who is angry that our governor (here in NJ) is “being a wimp and watching the polls so he hasn’t called for martial law when he should have.” Thanks for giving me reason to feel a bit less lonely.

This was the first of your podcasts I’ve heard. Glad I found it. I found it through the topic of what is apparently known now as the “homestead” movement. For me living quietly self-sufficient on my own property has been a dream of nearly 60 yrs. My earliest memories were of living on a dirt road at the edge of a farm in rural Michigan where my siblings went to a two-room school house. After my family ended up in NJ suburbia, I spent hours poring over the farm edition of the Sears Catalog (mostly planning bee hives) and later The Firefox Book. Even now, stuck in an apartment complex, I container grow and rent a raised bed to grow and can fun things for myself and friends. For the last year I’ve been browsing for properties in Eastern Tennessee (my family is all in Western NC), thinking I was finally going to have my dream in retirement in 2 years. Now this. I am still dreaming and looking, but planting more potatoes and veges than cut flowers and hot peppers this year!

Again, thanks for being there. I will buy into a membership next pay check.
